Michigan furniture restoration

Restoring your Bedroom Furniture is a great idea. Almost everybody has a bedroom set. There many kinds and styles of bedroom sets as you could possibly think of. In homes all over the united states there dozens of different kinds and materials,, there are oak bed room sets, Contemporary bedroom sets mahogany bedroom sets metal ones wicker and rattan, Chippendale bedroom sets, Duncan Fife bedroom sets too, and Sheridan bedroom sets as well, just to name a few. By far the most common would be some type of Classic wooden bedroom set consisting of a bed, headboard and foot board, dresser with mirror, Wardrobe, vanity or dressing table, a chest of drawers of perhaps a lingerie chest made circa 1930- 1980.

Wood is a beautiful renewable resource that has been coveted by those who appreciate natural beauty, since biblical times, and continues to be a lovely choice and thats the material we will be focusing on today.

Of all the wooden bedroom sets in use today, thousands will be discarded for no better reason than the owners don't know how to keep them in good serviceable condition. In days gone by the idea of simply replacing otherwise an otherwise great bedroom set just because of issues of wear was unthinkable. Thankfully there has been a trend toward restoration and people have understood the wastefulness of the disposable mindset of the eighties and nineties.

When an otherwise good set of bedroom furniture begins to wear and the finish becomes ugly, there is a process of renovation where the worn finish may be removed and another fresh finish can be reapplied, this is what is meant when we speak of refinishing, although refinishing and restoration are similar, there are differences which we will cover in a future article. When Refinishing a bedroom set, or any other fine furniture item for that matter, The variety of finish colors are almost endless. Our clients find through refinishing old worn out bedroom sets the furniture takes on the appearance of completely different bedroom sets, sometimes with a deep rich glow of antiquity, and sometimes like showroom new furniture, unrecognizable to most people as the same pieces. For example, in the 1960's the use of early American decor called for an extremely orange color that was commonly used on birch and maple bedroom sets. That early American stain became so identified with that period that when the early American phase passed, people were for the most part, burned out on it, nobody seemed to want those old orange maple bedroom sets any more, so we refinished hundreds of them, the original extreme makeover!

Then again around 1970 or so the phase of Extremely dark furniture came into vogue with the dark pine style, lines became a little heavier but most people never even noticed that many of the same bedroom sets from the sixties were now being finished in a tone more in keeping with the design trend of the day and millions of bedroom sets continued to be sold with slight design changes, the only real difference was the color, and once again We received the Call to refinish mass numbers of older bedroom sets. Once again in the late eighties the trend toward Cherry reached full effect and furniture colors changed again and orders came in to resurrect aging, dated looking Bedroom sets.

So it becomes understandable, that if you own an otherwise good bedroom set that has become a little worn or out dated looking, it makes good sense to consider refinishing or restoration.
